Welcome to the 2011 Sea Shell Sailing Season

Welcome alumni, friends, new skippers, and returning skippers to the 2011 Sea Shell Sailing season!

This is our 63rd year of teaching kids to sail and race right here in the picturesque Santa Barbara harbor. We are proud to carry on a tradition of introducing and mentoring kids, ages 8 to 15, to the very exciting sport of sailing.

Our organization is centered on teaching kids to sail through strong family participation. We teach new skippers with little to no experience to become comfortable with their boats. As each skipper becomes more skilled, he or she graduates to higher levels of competition. Parents are involved in running races and providing support to the kids in the safety boats.

Our sailing season runs from April through October with a long break in August. The first 3 Sundays of the season are dedicated to orientation and instruction. A typical day at the beach starts at noon and ends by 5 pm. The program consists of: rigging boats on the launch ramp, sailing around to West Beach, and congregating at 1pm for our “mast meeting”. We conduct four races each day – 3 for the kids and one for the adults.

Please take a moment to visit our club website (www.sbssa.org) where you will find information about club life, our racing calendar, boats for sale, and racing results.

I am honored to be the Commodore this year and look forward to many fun-filled weekends of sailing activities for the kids.
