WEST BEACH, SANTA BARBARA — At the 2023 Dinghy Jamboree, the day kicked off with a splash—literally—as the legendary “sea monsters” returned to the water in full mayhem mode. These mischievous creatures, played by parents decked out in colorful sea monster costumes, swarmed the shallows along the beach. Their mission? To stir up as much chaos as possible for the young skippers and their crews navigating their sailing dinghies just offshore.
Armed with water cannons, the kids weren’t about to let the monsters win without a fight. As the beasts tried to block the way of and capsize the small boats, the sailors fired back, soaking their would-be attackers while steering clear of the chaos. The result was pure, joyful pandemonium—a crowd favorite and the perfect finale to the first summer series of racing.
